Our history

  • Our History

Our very reverend Fr. Thomas arrived to Australia on the 29th May 1993 and with his arrival came a new beginning for our beloved Church. The first St. George church service at 77-79 Henry St, St. Albans took place on the eve of the feast of St. George by Fr. Thomas on the 15th November 1994. The congregation was blessed with the arrival of H.H Pope Shenouda III on the 30th August 1995 as he officially opened the Church.

The following year H.G Bishop Antonios Morcos consecrated the baptisimal font which took place on the 21st of May 1996.  The consecration of the Alter of St George happened later that year on the 12th of November 1996 when H.H Pope Shenouda III visited our congregation a second time. St. George’s Church celebrated H.G Bishop Suriel first visit to the church after his enthronement on the 5th of December 1999. The official opening of our smaller church, St. Theodore church occurred on the 29th of October in the year 2000.

The year 2002 brought about H.H Pope Shenouda III third visit to our church as he consecrated the icons of the church which took place on the 24th of November of that year. On the 24th of November 2002, Fr. Thomas was elevated to Hegumenship by H.H Pope Shenouda III.

The congregation celebrated on the same day, the official opening of the service building (The gym) by H.H Pope Shenouda III.
Our congregation was then blessed with the addition of Father Peter Agabi who was ordained on the 9th of July 2006. On the 22nd of October of that same year, the Lord sent us Fr. Morcos Yassa to help serve the congregation of St. George Church.  Fr. Morcos was later elevated to hegumenship by H.G Bishop Suriel on the 3rd of December 2007.
